David Granatelli Named Head Wrestling Coach
Appleton North High School is proud to announce David Granatelli as the new head coach of its wrestling program. Granatelli, a 2013 graduate of Appleton North, will take over the reins from Scott Clough, who led the Lightning wrestling team for an impressive 23 years.
Granatelli brings a rich legacy of wrestling success and leadership to the program. As a student-athlete at Appleton North, he was a two-time state qualifier, a team captain, and was voted the team's Most Outstanding Wrestler twice. His dedication and skill on the mat earned him recognition as one of the top wrestlers in the school's history.
After high school, Granatelli continued his wrestling career at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 2018. Since graduating, he has been teaching physical education in the Appleton Area School District.
Joining Granatelli's coaching staff are Luke Hoffmann, Jordan Quinn, and Zach Fischer. Hoffmann and Fischer are both former Lightning wrestlers, bringing additional experience and continuity to the program.
“I’m incredibly honored to return to Appleton North in this capacity,” Granatelli shared. “Coach Clough was an amazing mentor, and I’m excited to continue the strong tradition of Lightning wrestling while building on the program’s success.”
The Appleton North community is excited to welcome Coach Granatelli and his staff back and looks forward to the future of the Lightning wrestling program under their leadership.

LIGHTNING YOUTH REGISTRATION - NOW OPEN
The Appleton North Youth Wrestling Club is accepting registrations for its upcoming wrestling season. We are committed to providing a youth wrestling program stressing wrestling FUNdamentals, life skills, a positive experience, and good sportsmanship on and off the mat. We look forward to introducing the sport of wrestling to our members in an exciting and fun atmosphere! The program is available to all students in K-6th grade. Practices will begin Monday, December 9th and will run until Thursday, March 13th. Wrestlers will meet twice per week (Mondays and Thursdays) with an optional practice (Friday). All practices will take place in the Appleton North Wrestling room. Practices will be divided into 2 groups:
Beginners (K-2nd Grade)
● Monday/Thursday Nights: 6:15-7:00 pm
● Friday Nights: 6:00-7:15 pm

LIGHTNING WRESTLING RELEASE 2024-25 WRESTLING SCHEDULE
The Appleton North wrestling team has released their schedule for the 2024-25 season. The schedule has no significant changes from last season. The team is excited to test their skills in the always tough FVA and competitive tournament schedule.
In addition to the full FVA schdule the Lightning will compete in a very competitive tournament schedule. Varsity tournaments this season will include the Papermaker Invite, Battle on the Bay, Mid State Classic, Irish Invitation, Muskego Duals, and FVA Conference Tournament. JV tournaments include the Papermaker JV Invite, Shawano JV Invite, WWCA Challenge Series, Weyauwega-Fremont JV Invite, and the FVA JV tournament.
The Lightning will open their season on Thursday, November 30th at home versus Oshkosh North and Fond du lac. Competition will begin at 6:00 pm
